Founded in 1977 by Larry Ellison, Bob Miner and Ed Oates, Oracle began its journey under the name Software Development Laboratories. Between 1977 and 1982 the company took on one more name - Relations Software Inc. - before becoming Oracle Corporation in 1982.
In 1986, the company went public and became one of the largest database management companies the following year in 1987.
